Lagrange Logs - by Mels & dthead .

Runaround Sue

L404 (was J758) - is a local shunting Train Originates from Obannon. Three times a week (usually) this train will head north to shunt the TC industry and sometimes a lumber yard. The TC takes Corn Sryup Cars, and the lumber yard usually takes a centerbeam car.

Since the points to these industries only allow train comming north to revers into them they are called trailing points. With no way to run around the trains going north are the only way to shunt. So they cannot reverse all the way south - so they come to Lagrange and go into the yard were they can run around the train for the trip South.

So the train's locos have to runaround it's train at Lagrange. And there is a great old song called Runaround Sue - and there's the name the regulars will call this train. Depending on demand, the train has another name = "shy sue" - is when they take tankers to the TC Industry but then return light loco (just the locos) back South - with no need to come to La Grange. We can see alot of different locos on this job. We have seen a single switcher, a mainline loco, or 1,2,3,4 Geeps all do the job. Cars can be 1-14 cars as demand required.

L404 will shunt Obannon to Osborn every weekday as well. We usually see Sue mon/wed/fri in the morning - but as always it can vary.
