MOW = Maintenannce of Way. Basicslly they fix the right of way - the track, signals, lineside equipment.
They run dedicated MOW trains as required, or we might see the track machines ( critters) move along the
line in mini convoys. Or all safe on a flatcar being transported to a distant place.
A Mow Train could be a Rail train, a Ballast train. Usually they get a "W" prefex to their train and run as an extra. A MOW Rail truck ( australians call the Hirails ) are a Pickup truck/SUV/Truck that has rail wheels fitted so they can inspect the track. We often see them on track inspections. |
